You’ve learned what taekwondo is all about and how it came to be - but you’re still unsure about signing yourself or your child up. Here’s a non-exhaustive list of the benefits taekwondo training can bring:
Discipline:
A strong sense of mental and physical discipline can be learned through training. This is an especially vital skill for younger children who learn best by example.
Goal setting:
Stressing the importance of setting and meeting goals within training - whether it’s mastering a technique or reaching your favorite color belt - translates well when faced with large tasks at work or at school.
Ability to defend oneself:
Learning unarmed self-defense techniques help you to prepare for the unexpected. Exposing children to potential real-life scenarios can help to ease “what if” anxieties for themselves, and their parents.
Increasing confidence and self esteem:
Martial arts have been proven to help build confidence through training in a group setting, among peers, with consistent motivation and having the class build each other up, instead of breaking each other down.
Cardiovascular health:
Training allows for moderate cardio exercise which is good for heart health. 30 minutes of physical activity a day is optimal for individuals of all ages.
Improving flexibility:
Through static and dynamic stretching, flexibility is greatly improved, and will be a great asset when learning new and advanced kicking techniques.
Relieving stress:
Physical activity in general is a great stress reliever but martial arts provide the added bonus of energy exertion in the form of yelling and striking, which may be a huge benefit to those struggling to maintain a consistent mood.

Strengthening of muscles and joints:
Training can offer a lot of strengthening and conditioning through physical drills and repetitive motions.
Losing weight:
While weight loss isn’t stressed, with consistent attendance, it is possible to shed a couple of pounds!
Learning respect:
Individuals who partake in classes, especially children, pick up on dynamics and how respect plays a role in class settings; it is stressed that respect is earned and not given.

Establish friendship and sportsmanship through social activity:
Classes provide an environment that allows for new relationships to blossom whilst promoting good sportsmanship between students of all ages.
Self-control:
The concept of self restraint is explored through bodily control and physical boundary setting during classes.
Improving focus and concentration:
Difficult techniques can be hard to master without proper attention to detail during practice but classes stress focus and approach these techniques with minimal distractions.
Balance and coordination:
Martial arts are a great way to improve upon coordination as many techniques require using the hands and feet simultaneously. Hand-eye coordination will also be refined through continued practice with target use.
Whatever your reason for seeking training, we’re confident there'll be something here for you, or you may discover a benefit you weren’t expecting!
